Creating your own Yoda Lightsaber is really easy. I can't stress enough the influence that the epic space saga Star Wars has made to American pop culture. I mean, have you watched any of it? I tell you, it is sheer genius, thanks to the brilliance of master director George Lucas. Ever since the initial release of Star Wars in May of 1977, it has been an instant craze worldwide. From cosplays and conventions to Halloween costumes, a Star Wars costume is sure to be a hit.
Among the many iconic characters, my undisputable favorite is master Yoda. In case you didn't know who he is (as if you really don't), he is the main character's brilliant Jedi trainer. He was also responsible in quoting this popular verse, "Fear is the path to the Dark Side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you," or something like that. Now, before my I get my Star Wars geek on, let me get to the topic of creating your very own Master Yoda costume.
Buying a Halloween costume can be a wee bit expensive nowadays, and a little unnecessary. Now if you have the financial means or are really interested in buying your own costume for your collection, then go ahead by all means. But if you don't, and you really have the desire to walk in the footsteps of a true master, then here are a few helpful tips on how to create your very own Yoda Lightsaber.
Your Yoda Lightsaber costume should begin with dark brown pants and shirt. Yoda's robe can be created out of four pieces of fabric that is light brown in color. Two of the fabrics should equal your shoulder length and should be as high as your shoulder to ankle. The remaining two fabrics should be shoulder to waist high and which you can easily wrap around your arm. Sew the sides of the larger fabric with a 6' opening for the arms and sleeves. Sew together the top of the robe, while leaving another 6' hole for the collar. Fold the width of the sleeves and sew it up on opposite folds. Connect the sleeves to the robe's arm holes. Cut the robe all throughout the middle. Don't forget to hem the sleeves, collar and front and bottom openings of the robe, and then turn the right side out.
Accessorize your Yoda Lightsaber costume with a brown belt and a light saber. Create Yoda's cane by gluing six used paper towel rolls end to end together. Curve the top portion like a cane's. Be careful in using the cane for it is only intended as a prop. Your hair should be dyed white and your face painted green. Shape your ear with cotton balls to point like Yoda's with a glue. Don't forget to paint your neck, hands and feet green, too. That is how you make your very own Yoda Lightsaber costume - may the force be with you.
