its my first time hosting a halloween party, and i need steps and ideas to make it fun and good. Like decorations, costumes, games etc. Please help me!! the party isd november 1st. Links to party supplies, halloween stores, or anywhere were we can shop for supplies will help. And what kind of music and games should we hvae? And food! My cousins eat so much (they aren't fat, i just have over 20 cousins, on one side,and the other side is coming too?) so we need lots of food, and my house is small, so we are bringing it outside, and in the basement (haunted basement downstairs, 8 and over) so i need lots of help!

Well for me I'm having a family halloween party too. I have a friend that's having an adult party and she's already burned her music. I'm getting copies of her music (you can commission a family member that's coming to make yo some CDs). I'm making cupcakes with plastic spiders on them, rice crispy treats with halloween color MMs on top, lots of candy, lots of little halloween toys (plastic eye balls, spiders, wax lips). You can make some sugar cookies with halloween cookie cutters and have an area set up where the kids can decorate their own cookies.

A haunted house in the basement seems like a lot of work. Just get some cheap decorations and put them around the house. I'm sure you can find some cute stuff anywhere. Start with the dollar store. You have a lot of people to make food for, so save your money for that.

Someone gave me the idea that everyone pitch in $1 and give that money away as a prize for best costume. You can break it up into catagories or adult costume and best kids costume.

Bonus question: Who would win in a fight, Jesus or Michael Myers?
Remember, they've both been killed and resurrected!

Because apparently whoever sells these costumes thinks that we all want to skank it up in a skimpy little outfit when it's only 40 degrees outside.

Your best bet would be to look in the men's costume section. Either that or make your own.

Hallowe'en is short for All Hallows Evening. Hallows is old English meaning "Holy" or "Saint". It is the evening of All Saints Day (with day counted from sun set to sun set making it is the evening before the day).

All Saints Day is a festival started about 1200 years ago by the Catholic Pope in Rome on November 1st as a time to celebrate all holy people who have died are are now, as Christians believe, with God. Later another day was added, November 2nd, called All Souls Day when people can remember and pray for everyone who has died.

This festival became very popular and spread all around Europe reaching The British Isles after about 50 years. The Irish, who had been Christians for 300 years, adopted the festival which replaced their existing one in the spring.

In the 16th century, some Christians, known as protestants, broke away from the Catholic church and formed various smaller churches some of which took a very anti-catholic position. One of these groups, the puritans, was very influential in the UK and USA. They were against Catholic festivals and tried to ban them. They attacked anyone who tried to continue the festivals calling them devil-worshippers, pagans, witches and the like. Just propaganda but it stuck.

This is why Americans and some British people celebrate Halloween as a time of witches, demons, ghosts and general nastiness - though they mostly don't actually believe in any of it - except for a few extreme Christian sects.

The festival of All Saints & All Souls is till a very important feast in many other countries like Mexico, Latin America, Spain, Italy, Philippines, Hungary, Sweden etc. where is remains a day to celebrate and pray for the dead.
