The custom of wearing Halloween costumes was started a very long time ago. It was believed by the people from that time that the barrier between the physical and spiritual realms would lapse that day, allowing many evil spirits to come back from the dead and cause mischief and mayhem.  So, they would dress themselves up in masks and make-up to confuse the spirits, and, hopefully, hide their identity. Supposedly, they were emulating the dead, and dressing themselves as ghosts, zombies, and demons.

Though those costumes are still well used today, people have made quite a list of classics. Vampires, witches, and mummies kept the scariness in Halloween costumes. But along with those, there are cowboys, pumpkins, cheerleaders, football players, and humorous mockeries of celebrities that have made the holiday a little lighter.

Lately, others have decided to make their costumes more original. This is probably due to being tired of seeing 10 pirates, 11 ghouls, and 18 superheroes in one night. They were motivated to really make people notice. Some have dressed up as certain food items, others as electronics, and some just come up with their own thing all together.

Following is a list of lesser worn, but some still decently recognized Halloween costumes,

* The Generation: To pull of this look, you select a decade, 80's, 60's, or any other time period, and dress as the norm for that generation. Be a hippie, wear a poodle skirt, or go find yourself some uncomfortable spandex, and learn air guitar. Either way, these can usually bring quite a few giggles.

* The Shocker: This is the one where you think of the most offensive and unexpected outfit you have ever heard of, and then you wear it. People who go for these costumes have been the same who have dressed as Nazis, Hitler, Jesus, KKK members, and tampons. You wear these at your own risk.

* The Personal Joke: This costume is where you imitate someone you know, or perhaps take something a friend or 2 know about and do your best to dress as it. It's most likely that no one else will know what you're supposed to be, but that's why it's personal.

* The Partner/Group Costume: You must have another person who can “complete” you for these Halloween costumes. Try to dress as something you could wear on your own if at all possible, like a jigsaw piece. Together with the others, you complete the puzzle, or the plug and an electrical outlet.

* The Chameleon: This one requires patience to make sense, not like that's a big deal on Halloween. You paint yourself to match the area exactly where you'd like to sit or stand for a while. It's a Halloween costume that needs very little effort to pull off, after the disguise is on. When you do start moving, you can just keep it on and be dressed as that area.

Almost always, the best outfit is the one you just know works. If you can't be different, be classic. Most of all just have fun with whichever of the Halloween costumes you decide to wear.

Gone are the days when making adult Halloween costumes struck fear into your heart. The Internet makes it easier than ever before. What are you waiting for?

Halloween costumes, adult Halloween costumes,

In years gone past, as a grown up, if you wanted to dress up in an adult Halloween costume you pretty much had to make it from items you already owned. Your kid's Halloween costumes, on the other hand, were super simple, you basically went down to the corner drugstore, or big box retailer and allowed them to go crazy down the temporary Halloween aisle.

But where were the super groovy adult costumes? Nowhere to be found. If you were lucky enough to reside in one of the larger metropolitan areas, you might, and we stress MIGHT, be fortunate enough to have a complete Halloween store set up in your city for a month or two prior to the holiday.

Even then, there was very little in the way of costume ingredients that could be used for grown ups. Sure there were accessories. Things like toy guns, machetes, make up kits, wigs, etc. But overall where were the well planned out and pre-packaged adult Halloween costumes?

As the Internet has developed over the past 12 to 15 years or so, one of the trends retailing has seen is more and more opportunities to take traditional brick and mortar stores online. 25 years ago, we were only just beginning to see the advent of the big book stores like Barnes & Noble.

Then the World Wide Web came along and started growing up. This growth began to see some of the big box stores attempting to take their "real" businesses online. While some of these businesses did very well, others faltered. And then another interesting phenomenon began to transpire.

Businesses which only existed online were created to compete with some of the existing retailers. These became known as "e-tailers" and basically offered their products to consumers only via their websites. The obvious example here being Amazon.com. It took them a while, but eventually they grew to the point that they have completely overshadowed the likes of Barnes & Noble.

The same thing has happened with Halloween costumes. In the past existing stores would create those temporary aisles, and since it was the only outlet for costume buying, they did well. Enterprising individuals saw the opportunity and set up the temporary stores, but only in the larger marketplaces. And they do well enough to allow for the practice to continue.

However today, the Internet has simplified the process, and massively enhanced the opportunity for consumers to get exactly what they are looking for in the way of Halloween costumes. Today, it is quite simple to do a search for costume suppliers online and then have choices from many e-tailers.

Today the only real limitation for adults creating killer costumes is their own imagination. The leading online suppliers even make this a no brainer because they have created complete ensembles that provide the consumer with all the accessories and clothing pieces they need for almost any type of look they could imagine.

Whether you are simply looking to accompany your children during their annual Halloween sweets foraging in full costume regalia or you're off to the masquerade ball of the year, you can find it online. Just remember to not leave it to the last minute, it will take a couple of days to ship!

How To Make Halloween Wigs

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6zLh8OvRsA

You may not believe just how easy it is to create your own Halloween wigs. All you need are some basic items and your imagination to make any style of wig your want. Of course, it depends on the costume you are wearing, and the effect you want to achieve. But you are only limited by your creativity.

The basics for making your own wig are actually quite simple. You will need a baseball cap, knitted hat, pantyhose, or any other sort of hat that will cover your own hair.  Add to this some yarn in any color you choose for your particular wig, fabric glue, scissors, a small cup, and a beach ball or basket ball. You may also require a needle and thread for some of the wigs, if you need to sew the yarn to a knitted cap.

Once you have assembled your supplies, you can begin making your Halloween wigs. Take the cup and glue it to the base of the ball. Use this as a stand for your cap. You now have your head ready to work with. Place your cap on the ball and get ready for a lot of fun.

Cut the yarn into the lengths you want your wig hair to be. You can make short hair, or very long hair. The choice is totally up to you. Next, make a thin line of glue where you want the part to be. You can also make a circle of glue. For a split colored wig, make a line with the glue halfway around your head. Attach the yarn one piece at a time to the glue until the entire ball is covered as you would like it. If you are working on the top, you move the yarn to one side or the other as needed. You may just tie it up to get to the next layer. If using a knit cap you will need to sew the yarn to it instead of using the glue. It sews the same way. Now, you are almost done with the first of your Halloween wigs.

You just need to let the glue dry and you have your very own wig! After the glue dries, you can fix it into any style you like. You may want it to be straight and hanging down, put into ponytails, or just anyway that you would like to show off your own homemade wig. Please do not use your own head as a base for your Halloween wigs model. Always glue the yarn onto a fake model as the glue will be very hard to get out of your real hair!
