Also, by making your Disney hats, you are given the chance to fashion a type that is tailored according to your own style. You will also be provided with a chance to incorporate your child’s interests, hobbies and personality on the hats that you will be making. They can be great accessories for Halloween costumes as well since Disney costumes have always been the primary subjects of a lot of children.
Below is a list of guides and tips that will enable you to create your own Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears hats.
In making Mickey and Minnie mouse ears hats, you will need a thick felt fabric, matching thread, sewing machine, heavy iron fabric, and scissor pins.
Take your black felt fabric and cut out a full circle. Cut this circle into two to form two semi-circles which measure 8 inches wide on their base and 8 inches tall in length. Cut some few small slits which measure about 1.4 inch long around the circular portion of the cut on the fabric pieces.
Pin the two circular halves together, with one being directly on top of the other and their right sides facing each other. Sew all the edges and curves of the semi-circles to sew them together. Avoid sewing together the flat portions of the circle.
Then, hem the semi-circles’ flat area and flip the hat right side out.
Cut 4 even circles from the black felt fabric. Make sure that each of them has a diameter of 5 inches. Cut two pieces of interfacing circular pieces which also measure 5 inches in diameter. Create two groups of circles and make sure that each of the group has two felt fabric circles and a single interfacing circle.
For each group, iron out the interfacing circle on the wrong side of the felt fabric circle. Secure the two fabrics by using a pin and sew them together with their wrong side out. Leave 2 inches seam allowance and turn the ear again right-side out.
After sewing each ear for your Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears hats, hand sew all the openings to close them. Then, sew one circle on each side of the hat’s base.
Fit the hat to your child and check if the measurements are all accurate and if the hat fits securely on him or her. Match these hats with any Mickey and Minnie Mouse-inspired costume.
